On the present economic situation:

‘The immense difficulty of getting a consistently good thing done – and ease of doing a bad thing.  To establish a national debt – how easy – but a national store – of Wealth – how difficult.  People all call me mad, for hoping to do so.’

Hi Im after a quote by John Ruskin where he says “that someone will make something cheaper than someone else and this is where he falls prey” or something like this.Hope you can help. regards Vic

    • This is one of many quotations ascribed to Ruskin, without there being any trace of them in his writings – although someone, somewhere, thought they sounded like Ruskin. A common version of this quote is ‘There is nothing that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little cheaper, and the people who judge on price alone are this man’s lawful prey’. The ‘quotations’ have been repeated many times, particularly on the internet – a version of this apparently appeared in Baskin-Robbins ice-cream parlours!.

  2. Ruskin was clearly calling for the establishment of a sovereign wealth fund.
